The House of Representatives plans to vote on President Joe Biden’s $1.75 trillion economic package and a separate infrastructure bill on Friday.

After 11 hours of intense deliberation by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the ongoing differences appear to have been resolved.

The vote on the large-scale tax and infrastructure spending package will occur after months of intra-party tensions and debates that lingered until late Thursday. While much of the bill had been drafted, discussions were ongoing over state and local tax breaks and last-minute changes to amend a clause that allows for negotiation of drug prices.

The infrastructure bill, which has already been approved in the Senate, will be sent directly to Biden’s desk. Passing both bills in the House of Representatives will bring a much-needed victory for President Biden, whose public confidence has dwindled. The dramatic defeat of the Democrats in the Virginia election and the unexpected narrow win of the incumbent governor of New Jersey prompted party members to step up their efforts to complete the so-called ‘Do Better Again’ economic package and infrastructure bills.

A White House official noted that Biden was directly involved in negotiations with House and Senate Democrats and on Thursday urged members of the House of Representatives to vote yes when the bill arrives.
