US President Joe Biden said in a statement after Russia’s decision on East Ukraine, “Starting tomorrow, we will also begin to impose sanctions against some elite family members in Russia. Russia will pay the price. Sanctions will increase.”
US President Joe Biden, describing Russia’s steps towards Ukraine as “the beginning of the invasion”, announced the first part of the sanctions against Russia.
Recalling that Putin recognized the two regions in Ukraine as “independent states” at the press conference, Biden said, “To put it simply, Russia announced that it has taken a part of Ukraine from them.” Reminding that Putin decided to send troops to the two regions in question last night and that he expanded the area of the soldiers, Biden said, “From my point of view, Putin is establishing justifications for taking possession of more land by force. If you listen to his speech last night, you can see that he produced reasons to go even further. This is the beginning of the Russian occupation in Ukraine.”
”Starting tomorrow we will also begin to impose sanctions against some elite family members (oligarchs) in Russia. We worked with Germany. We agreed that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project would not go forward. Russia will pay the price. Sanctions will increase.”
