The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) launched a large-scale military exercise after Nancy Pelosi began a visit to Taiwan.
PLA forces used long-range real ammunition and conventional missiles in the exercise they launched in the east of the island.
On the other hand, fully equipped J-20 type warplanes departing from the air base in the region also took part in the exercise.
The Shinhua news agency announced that the PLA would hold a series of military exercises in 6 regions surrounding Taiwan on August 4-7.
The plane carrying Pelosi and the congressional delegation of 5 people had reached Taiwan despite the threats from China.
The visit, which was not included in Pelosi’s announced itinerary, caused tension in US-China relations.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the visit after Pelosi’s landing.
In a statement last week, China’s Ministry of Defense warned that if Pelosi’s visit takes place, it may respond militarily, and “If Pelosi visits Taiwan, the Chinese army will not stand idly by.”
Due to the possible visit, the military activity of the US and Chinese armies near Taiwan had increased.
The Ronald Reagan warship, attached to the 7th fleet of the US Navy in the Pacific, left Singapore with its war fleet at the beginning of the week and moved towards the South China Sea in the northeast direction.
