Stocks in Asia-Pacific traded higher in the previous trading session of the year.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.56 percent, continuing the mood from the US session. In mainland China, Shanghai Compound gained 0.35 percent, and Shenzhen Component rose 0.26 percent.
In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.5 percent. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 and Topix rose 0.28%, while the Japanese yen strengthened slightly to stop at 132.42 against the US dollar.
Seoul Stock Exchanges are closed for the New Year holiday and are scheduled to resume trading on January 2 at 10:00 am local time. According to the Department of Labor, overnight claims for unemployment in the US rose higher than the Dow Jones forecast. Wall Street’s key averages are heading towards their worst year since 2008 as investors enter the final trading days of 2022.
